We are now a few years on from the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic however many people are still experiencing distress and anxiety in many circumstances.
The lockdown on personal movement and all but essential healthcare and economic activity in order to contain the Covid-19 pandemic has, without exception, affected every person in the country in one way or another and very profoundly in some cases.

People have devised new and imaginative ways of making the best of a difficult situation and, on the positive side, this has manifested itself in the voluntary help offered to the most vulnerable within their communities, the respect shown to the carers and providers of essential services and in the shared humour.
However, many others have been unable to manage or have become extremely distressed in circumstances where, for example:
Family tensions
They, perhaps together with young children, have been confined to an apartment with no access to open space that permits social distancing and relationships have become strained as boredom and frustration has set in
Loneliness
Since the pandemic their social interaction with other has significantly decreased, and they are struggling to make new connections which has led to feelings of sadnes, low self-esteem and loneliness.
Parent overwhelm
As parents they have become overwhelmed with the pressures of supervising home schooling, keeping their children entertained and out of mischief, maintaining the home and meeting work commitments
Fear of contracting the virus
The fear of contracting the coronavirus dominates their thoughts and prevents them from carrying out their permitted activities
In some instances, such cases engender secondary feelings of intense guilt, anger and fear. Anxieties over issues such as health, relationships and finance that pre-existed the Covid-19 contagion are likely to be have been exacerbated by enforced isolation under lockdown and, as with PTSD, the trauma remains with the individual until coping mechanisms have been developed and adopted.
